The other end of the Scale… (Pun Intended)

So, I am reading Portia’s book.  It’s all about eating disorders and self control.  Then on TV last night and the night before, I have seen programs about obesity.  Hence, reading a book about starving yourself and watching TV about gorging yourself.

The first show I saw was on TLC.  (Of course, TLC has all those weird reality shows… I hate/love Sister Wives, but that’s for another day).

It featured an obese couple trying to have a baby.  She was unable to get pregnant because her weight caused her to be on irregular cycles.  They also showed an obese woman who was pregnant and had to get a c-section.  Not to be mean, but both stories were kind of boring.  HEL-LO… Reality TV… I want lots of drama…

I saved the best for last… A metro-sexual obese man.  He would spend hours in the morning fixing his hair in bed.  Applying product (and, yes, he did use the word “product”) … Blow drying…  Brushing… Blow drying… Hair spray… Blow drying… etcetera etcetera etcetera, but I guarantee it included a lot of blow drying.

He was also invited to a church to sing.  Guess what this means?!?!  New outfit!!  (Insert girl scream here)  So, he, of course, had to go fabric shopping with his wife.  (YAY!)  It looked as though he could barely walk because of his weight; therefore, he had to use a wheelchair.  Since he is in a wheelchair, it was his wife and her sister running around the fabric shop showing him dozens of fabric samples.

Then, his wife slaved overnight to make him some sort of brown vest and outfit.  (Unfortunately, I missed the end result.)  All the while, he demanded dinner and a refill because I am assuming he could not physically get it himself.  I quote, “My cup NOT runneth over.”  (shaking his glass and wanting a refill on his drink).

Summary:  An overweight pre-madonna.  I have so many opinions… I am bursting at the seams… (Again, pun intended), but I will just leave you with my description of the show and let you judge accordingly.

OBESE SHOW NUMBER TWO

Last night, I saw the Heart Attack Grill on the Travel Channel (?).  (I can’t remember.  It seems like all the channels have shows about food now.)

Apparently, they put lard on all their burgers and cook the fries in lard.  BLECH!  Not only does this sound really gross and just made me vomit in my mouth a little, but I hate the word lard.

Here’s the kicker:  If you are over 350 pounds, you eat for free…  yea… no words…

Thanksgiving Preparations

I usually go over to my brother’s in-laws for Thanksgiving.  It’s usually a pretty good crowd.

Of course, everyone brings a dish.  This year, I am responsible for the green bean casserole.

I think they give me this dish because it’s easy and not hard to mess up.  Plus, I have to travel about three hours.  I need to google the recipe.  Anyone have a to-die-for green bean casserole recipe to impress my family?

Portia de Rossi’s Book

I did end up buying Portia’s book.  I am about halfway through it.  It’s been pretty interesting.  I loved watching Ally McBeal, and she writes about how she felt behind the scenes.  She felt like an outsider.  There were a lot of insecurities.  She asked a few of the cast members to lunch, and eventually found out they don’t eat lunch together.  Instead, she went out during the lunch break to chain smoke.

She writes about her childhood experiences as a up-and-coming model.  She would have been completely satisfied in just getting her portfolio shots and never being hired, but her relationship with her mother pushed her to actually take the jobs.  She didn’t want to let anyone down.

I have always though Portia is gorgeous.  I think the book has been interesting because everyone has their insecurities.  I also have a couple of friends that dealt with eating disorders, and it is insight.

I also saw a commercial on tv for a new show coming called What’s Eating You?  (I think that’s the name.)  It’s on A&E about eating disorders.  I suppose all the media coverage show how this is a more prominent problem.

Daylight Savings

UGH!  I hate the time change in the winter/fall.  I get off work, and it is already so dark!  I don’t want to walk the dogs because it’s so dark.  I don’t want to run errands because it’s so dark.  I don’t want to work out because it’s so dark.  I don’t want to clean because it’s so dark.  Well… you get what I’m saying.   I love long, light, sunny, summer days!  Winter is depressing, but I am excited about the holidays!

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT’S ALMOST THANKSGIVING!?!?  Crazy!

I am pretty excited about spending some time with the family!  The holidays are fun with my nephews and niece.  They are so very cute!

Anyway, I am trying to get caught up at work and at home.  Being gone for a week causes major pile up.

Hope everyone else is as excited about the holidays as I am!  Woo hoo!

Dinner in Medford

Last night, I had dinner with the girls.  It was delicious!  Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of the food.  I did take this picture of the two of us, but it looks like a red light special.

DSCF2079 DSCF2081 We sat by the kitchen.  It wasn’t too loud, and it made us feel safe that we could see the food being made.

ONE WORD = YUM!

Yesterday’s Lunch:

It was pretty good, but it needed some salt.  I loved the grains in this soup!  I love, love, love Whole Foods.  It is amazing!!  AMAZING!!

Last night, we went bowling.  I am probably the worst bowler ever.  I think it is due to my little thumbs and weak wrists.

They had candlepin bowling at the alley.  I had never even heard of this before.  You use smaller balls and get three shots instead of two.

DSCF2059 Look at those tiny candlepins!

I would definitely need bumpers!

I had lunch at a restaurant called Pairings.  Its in the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.  It was ok but crazy expensive.  I already at the Hotel and didn’t want to leave to walk in the cold weather.

I got a wild mushroom Panini.  Again, it was just ok.  The French fry straws were a tease.  Since they were so tiny, you only got a little taste of fry.  I wanted to shove them all in my mouth together, but I guess that’s not considered classy.

I know this is disgusting to say and forbidden in the health food world, but I’m not ashamed…. I love McDonald’s Fries!  These did not compare.  So, I only ate a few.
